Obituary of Margene Myra Johns
SWANVILLE - Margene Myra (Stewart) Johns, 89, passed away peacefully to join her heavely family, at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast on September 22, 2015. She was surrounded by her daughters and their families.
Margene was born in Montville on Frye Mountain, November 17, 1925, to her parents Arthur and Christine (Walker) Stewart. She attended school at the Carter School on Frye Mountain and went on to graduate from Freedom Academy in the Class of 1944. From there, she and her sisters moved to Norwood, Massachusetts to work at the Bendix Plant during WWII. She eventually came back to Belfast and worked at Belfast Manufacturing (Pants factory) and later at Creative Apparel until retiring.
Margene married Robert C. Johns, Sr., on June 10, 1949, and had seven children. She considered her greatest accomplishment the raising of her children. Margene had many proud and wonderful moments in her lifetime, one being getting her driver's license. Another was when she and her sister, Shirley Harris, became members of the Mayflower Society.
Margene lived her life to the fullest, enjoying special times with her family and quilting. She loved making homemade quilts for all her family members.
Margene was predeceased by her parents; her husband in 1970; her son Robert, Jr. in 1992; one brother, Carleton Stewart; sisters Shirley Harris, Elsie Harris and Evelyn Drew; cousins Roland Stewart and Virginia Spaulding, who were like siblings.
She was sincerely loved and will be missed by her children: DeeDee and husband Ralphy Doughty of Knox, Robin Johns and Gail Johns, both of Salisbury, New York, Shirley and husband Scott Ellis of Swanville, Barbara and husband Rick Brooks of Otis, and Julie and husband Davey Small of Swanville. She also leaves behind many grandchildren: Darren and Heidi Doughty of Knox, Justin and Renee Elwell of Salisbury, New York, Robert and Miranda Doughty of Knox, Jeremy and Sylvia Wood of Swanville, Brandon Wood of Swanville, Dr. Ramesh and Katrina Cherukuri of Oneida, New York, Dr. Anjuli Cherukuri of Burlington, Vermont, Scott Ellis and Skye Ellis both of Swanville, Kylie Brooks of Otis, Jesse and Gabrielle Trafton of Morrill, Michael Brooks of Otis, Ashley Small of Chico, CA, Abigail Small and Amanda Small, both of Swanville; many great-grandchildren: Aiden Elwell of Salisbury, New York, Zachary Wood of Swanville, Damien Doughty of Knox, Haley Wood of Swanville, Kelsea Doughty of Knox, Asher Cherukuri of Oneida, New York, Kathleen and Kendra Wood, both of Swanville, Addison Trafton of Morrill, Derick Nekritz of Salisbury, New York, Nicholas and Lillian Anderson of Chico, California, and soon to arrive Destinee Doughty of Knox and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the Waldo County General Hospital Hospice Unit.
The family would also like to give thanks to the Ambulance Attendants, the WCGH Caregivers, the Hospice Unit and Riposta Funeral Home for all their support and excellent care. Thank you.
