Obituary of Edward F Brackett
BIRCH HARBOR – Edward F. Brackett, 63, of Birch Harbor, ME died Wednesday June 22nd in a kayaking accident off the coast of Corea. Ed was born on February 2nd, 1962 in Saugus, MA.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Brackett of Birch Harbor, his children Galadriel Oberg and husband Scott of Panama City Beach, FL, Angela Poole and fiancée Kate of Plymouth, MA, Aaron Poole and wife Jennifer of Bangor, ME, his grandchildren Berkley, Cora, and Elise, and his mother Dot Guy and husband Bill of Seabrook, NH. Ed was the oldest of 12 siblings and is survived by brothers David, Dan, John and Mark and sisters Karen, Kathy, Laura, and Diane. Ed also leaves behind many other family members and friends.
Ed served for 14 years as an EMT in York County and was the co-founder of York County Search & Rescue. He also served as an EMT and Boy Scout leader in the town of Orrington and as a Project Superintendent for Cianbro. In 2004, Ed and his wife Cheryl began to operate Seascape Kayak & Bike in Birch Harbor. Ed was a Registered Maine Sea Kayaking Guide for 14 years and volunteered as an adaptive paddler for the Wounded Warrior program. He was a former President of the Schoodic Area Chamber of Commerce and was presently the Code Enforcement Officer for Gouldsboro, Sorrento, and Sullivan. Ed was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hiking, hunting, boating and fishing.
Throughout his life Ed experienced many personal and professional accomplishments, but what he was most proud of was his family. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend who always put his loved ones first. Ed’s family and friends will miss his kindness, willingness to help those in need, and infectious smile.
Ed’s life will be celebrated on Saturday July 2nd at 4:30pm at Hammond Hall (427 Main St., Winter Harbor, ME 04693). A reception will follow at the Masonic Hall on School St. in Winter Harbor. Donations in Ed’s honor can be made to Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation (www.maineadaptive.org).
