Obituary of James A. Green
departed peacefully on his next adventure and new life after a long period of declining health on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Sussman House in Rockport. Jim was the only child of Alexander ‘Scotty’ and Mary ‘May’ Curry (Gibson) Green born on May 23, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland where he attended local schools and becoming a machinist.
In 1967 Jim and his parents immigrated to New York where he eventually began working in commercial construction, later becoming a supervisor for independent third party inspection and testing companies providing services at most nuclear power plants east of the Mississippi. He resided for periods of time in New York, Texas, Indiana and finally settled in Maine in 1987. In 1986 he met Deborah Lynn Cunningham whom he married in 1989 making their home in Tenant’s Harbor where they raised his youngest child, Alexander with summer visits from his two beautiful daughters, Patricia and Amanda. Jim finally left his traveling jobs and spent the rest of his working years in the boat industry for his father-in-law, Bruce at Padebco Yachts in Round Pond, brother-in-law, Paul at CWC Boat Transport in Bristol and lastly at Jeff’s Marine in Thomaston before retiring due to health.
Jim was a quiet man of few words until you got to know him. He greatly loved his family and was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments and his ‘gene pool’ became scattered all over the country, ocean to ocean and in between. Although not very handy with a hammer and piece of wood, he would happily offer a hand and moral support for Deb with projects around the house and yard, preferring instead the mechanical chores and challenges of any household. He loved riding his Harley Davidsons over the years, attending Highland Games in Maine, New Hampshire, and Nova Scotia, and listening to the pipe bands play and compete. He was an avid reader and collector of Stephen King and spoiled his dogs, Claire and Bear, beyond belief.
Jim was predeceased by his parents as well as Special Aunts, Sadie McInally and Margaret Laidlaw and Cousin Margaret Angell (whom he thought of as a sister) all three of Scotland, several other cousins and his Westie, Frisky.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; daughter, Patricia Green Gano of Phenix City, AL, her son, Quinn Alexander Montes, wife Kelly (Everett and Baby Montes due December 2019) of Portland, OR; her daughter, Alex Dakota Gano and fiancé Dylan Holmes, (Baby Girl Holmes due May 2020) of Smith Station, AL; daughter, Amanda Jane Cox, husband Jeremy, (London Zeppelin and Jameson Alexandra – named after her Paw Paw Jim) of Dalton, GA; son, Alexander Kerr Green and fiancé Duana ‘Dee’ Powell, (James Logan and Bowie Curry-Lynn) of Anaheim, CA; stepdaughter, Amy Leann Smith, her sons: Cody Alan Chapius (Kinsley Reese and Jaycee Renee) all of Millington, TN; Tyler Joseph Petty, Atoka, TN; Logan Robert Petty (Aiden Joseph and Aaron Michael) of Shalimar, FL; Dylan Wade Pullam of Southhaven, MS. He is also survived by mother-in-law Loa Lee Blake, Tenants Harbor, ME; father-in-law, S. Bruce Cunningham and wife Patricia; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Shari Cunningham, all of Round Pond, ME; nephews Christopher Cunningham and wife Payson, of Boynton Beach, FL and William Cunningham and significant other Shebly Faux of Nobleboro, ME; special cousins Jean Moran (also like a sister) and her daughter Gillian Moran and fiancé Steven Taylor, Sharon Angell and husband Ewan Hamilton (Paige and Reece) of East Kilbride, Scotland, Stephen Angell (Kayley and James) of Glasgow, Scotland and many other cousins and relatives in Scotland and England.
Jim’s wishes are for no funeral or visiting hours, requesting instead, a graveside service with a bagpiper when his ashes are committed. The family will be remembering and celebrating his life on his birthday in the Spring. A notice will be published with the details closer to that time.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, PO Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841 or the Sussman House, c/o Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
