Obituary of Dennis W. Ames

Dennis W. Ames, 72, of Cushing, Maine and Saint Augustine, Florida, passed away March 18, 2019 after an extended illness. Dennis was born June 8, 1946 in Hartford, Conn, the son of Oakley L. Ames and Anna Seavey Ames. Dennis is survived by his daughter Jennifer Ames and his granddaughter Addison Porter. He was one of eight siblings, Anna Gay Sellars, Ramona Ames, Mark Ames, Shirley Ames, Diane Ames-Gyorgy and Kathleen Meservey. He was predeceased by his brother, O. David Ames. Dennis's love of the ocean included adventures from the rugged coast of Maine through the inter-coastal waterways and throughout the Bahamas. As a teen he lobstered from a small skiff out of Pleasant Point Harbor. Later in life he worked for Kip's Seafood in Cushing and managed a marina in St. Augustine Florida. He loved sailing all over the Maine coast and down to Florida, and beyond to the Bahamas. His land hobbies included landscaping, and using reclaimed wood to build beautiful home accents and furniture. Dennis was also well known for his creative story telling. A celebration of his life will held at a later day to be announced.
