Obituary of Dorothy Weiss
Dorothy Weiss, 90, passed away Christmas morning at the Grace Home in
Harrington, Maine. She was born January 14, 1928 in White Horse, Yukon
Territory, Canada. She grew up in Albany, CA where she met and in 1946 married
Roy E. Farren, Jr. of the US Navy. They soon moved to Roy’s hometown in Maine
where their four children (Jerry died at birth) were born. In 1960 they separated
and she moved back to California with the children, later divorcing.
She held several positions before finding her niche as a seamstress with her own
shop. She married Col. Lane Weiss in 1975, eventually moving to Oroville, CA
where she was happiest.
After moving to Oroville, she delved into her passion of art and became an award
winning artist, and member of the Oroville Art League.
During the mid 1990’s, Dot developed dementia then breast cancer in 2008,
which led to her children’s decision to bring her closer to them in Maine-with her
kicking and screaming all the way, where her family doted and took such good
care of her.
She was predeceased by her parents; Jim and Evelyn Barrett Ryder; infant son
Jerry; husband Lane Weiss and step-daughter Barbara Weiss. Survived by
beloved sister, Pat Naylor and husband Art; son Gary Farren and wife Barbara;
daughter Cindy Smith and husband Paul; daughter Vicki Crabtree; step-daughter
Betsy Vallejo and husband Ric; four grandsons, Aaron Crabtree, Christopher and
Corey Smith, and Lucas Vallejo; six great grandchildren, and many dear nieces
and nephews.
There will be no memorial in Maine, Dorothy loved California and always desired
to go back home. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.directcremationofmaine.com
