Obituary of William Patterson
NOBLEBORO — William (Moo Moo) Patterson, 57, passed away Nov. 9, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his wife, his special granddaughter, Kayleigh, whom he was helping to raise, oldest daughter Dajiah and special brother-in-law Brian (B.B.) Sawyer.
Bill was born June 3, 1961, in Eastport to Robert J. Patterson and Alice Anderson Patterson. He grew up on the Port Clyde peninsula and attended local schools. Bill loved the ocean and fishing was in his blood at an early age. He made his career on the water lobstering, scalloping, ground fishing and working on the docks when his children were younger and needed him closer to home.
Bill married his wife, Joyce Sawyer Patterson, in Rockland, and they made their home there for a short time while starting their family. They then moved back to the Port Clyde peninsula, where they chose to raise their three children in beautiful Long Cove, a few houses down from William’s family home. There, the tight-knit neighborhood blessed the Pattersons with an ideal place to raise their children, very friendly neighbors, many like family and a few heartfelt, lifelong friends.
Many of Bill’s fondest memories were made at the Long Cove Quarry, where he and Joyce taught their children to swim, soon after they walked, surrounded by friends at the neighborhood swimming hole. The family also spent every chance possible, out on the boat, leisurely cruising up and down the peninsula, instilling the love of the ocean into both his daughters and passing his passion for fishing on to his son.
MooMoo will be most fondly remembered by friends and family for his laugh-till-you-cry humor and his hilarious, impromptu lyrics to many, many a song. He was always “Just-a-swinging.”
William was predeceased by his father, Robert, his mother, Alice, and his brother, Stephen Patterson.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 35 years, Joyce Sawyer Patterson; his special granddaughter they are raising, Kayleigh Patterson; daughter Dajiah and her spouse, Christopher Tynan; son Brandon Patterson; daughter Danica Patterson and her partner, Cassandra Flaherty; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew Tynan, Alyssa Tynan and his youngest grandson, Nathaniel (Buggy) Patterson; asister, Sonya Stevens, and her family; sister-in-law, Kathy Patterson; a nephew, Trevor Patterson; and an aunt, Joyce Hooper.
A celebration of his life will be announced after the holidays.
