Obituary of Barbara Pike Thompson
Scarborough- Barbara Pike Thompson recently of Westbrook and formerly of Harrison, died on Tuesday November 27, 2018, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a year long fight with cancer. Barbara was born on May 21,1934, in Portland and spent her childhood in Casco, ME. She lived with Lida C. Trott in Harrison so that she could attend Bridgton HS and "Aunt Lida" quickly became a very important role model and “borrowed Aunt” to her.
After she graduated HS in 1952, Barbara became a medical secretary in Bridgton and later in Portland. She married Ronald “Buddy” Pike in 1958 and they lived in Lexington, MA where they raised their two children, Todd and Lori. They enjoyed home improvement projects, the Bruins, the RedSox, and saving for and designing their cottage in Little Cove on Long Lake. Summers were spent working on the cottage and enjoying family and friends at the beach in Little Cove.
In 1975, after Buddy died, Barb and their two children moved to Maine where she turned their cottage into a home. At that time she began working for the Post Office in Harrison Village where she made lifelong friends in her co-workers and patrons alike. In 1984 she sold the home in Little Cove and moved into Harrison Village where she beautifully transformed the cute little yellow house at the head of the lake. Her skills at decorating, designing, sewing, upholstering and crafting all were evident in her home.
In 2000, she married Andrew Thompson, who had been a Long Lake summer friend of the family. They enjoyed 18 active years together full of travel, real estate projects and enjoying their grand children.
Barb will be greatly missed by her husband, Andrew Thompson of Westbrook, ME; her children, Todd A. Pike (Oscar) of Weymouth, MA, Lori Pike Shibles (Dwight) of Cumberland, ME, and her stepdaughter Susan Lobsiger (Bob), of Gretna, NE; her siblings David Eldridge (Diana), Caroline Hall (Loren) of Casco, ME, Robin Edwards (Joey) of Harrison, ME, Linda Morton of South Paris, ME and she was predeceased by her youngest brother Dale Eldridge of Casco, ME; her step grandchildren Brianna Thompson, Alex Thompson and Karlee Lobsiger; and the lights of her life, who kept her smiling to the end, her granddaughters Elizabeth Shibles and Megan Shibles.
Barbara did not want a service, but please join us for an informal gathering for family and friends on Saturday December 29, 2018 from 2-4 at the United Parish Church Vestry Hall located at 77 Main Street in Harrison.
