Obituary of Irene V. Straghan
Irene V. Straghan – aka Mimi – passed away peacefully on the morning of Aug. 12 after a short stay at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus. She was 90 years old.
Irene led a full life which included work in labs and doctors’ offices until she married Sidney Straghan and started a family. She diligently cared for three daughters and worked a variety of part time jobs, one of the most memorable being an overnight security guard position! She was a devoted member of the Churches of Christ while a resident of Wakefield, Mass., and later attended Bremen Union Church after relocating to Waldoboro. She loved the Bible, crossword puzzles, classic movies, puns, shopping, anything sparkly, baby goats, her cantaloupe loving cat Malachi, and crisp butter cookies.
Irene was preceded by mother, Alice Lundin; father, Emil Lundin; brothers, David and Norman Lundin; and son-in-law, Michael Sands.
She is survived by husband, Sidney Straghan of Waldoboro; daughters, Lynne and husband John Vik of Katy, Tex., Cynthia Sands of Waldoboro, and Heidi Straghan and husband Michael Riley of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Hali Vik, Carolyn Durchholz, Michael Daigle, Sydney Riley, and Michael Riley; and nieces and nephews, Beth Hamilton of Woburn, Mass., Mark Lundin of Walnut Creek, Cal., and Scott Lundin of West Newton, Mass.
The family will hold a celebration of life in December just before Christmas – one of Irene’s favorite holidays – details to follow later.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bremen Union Church, 523 Waldoboro Rd., Bremen, ME 04551.
