Obituary of Alton Leroy Libby

Alton L. Libby Sr., 81 of Newcastle, died peacefully with family at his side under the compassionate care of the staff at Sussman House Hospice Facility in Rockport. He was born November 15,1936 in Damariscotta, Maine, a son of Halvor and Doris Bragg Libby. Alton was a hardworking, no nonsense man who earned his living in the Maine outdoors, digging bloodworms and working in the woods. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the sport of hunting and fishing. Alton could often be found tinkering on anything with a motor and most loved restoration of antique tractors. One of his proudest moments was donating a 1919 English Fordson tractor to the Boothbay Railway Museum. Alton was predeceased by his son Andrew Kevin Libby; father, Halvor Libby; mother, Doris Libby; brother, Jim Libby; sister Astrid Wallace and nephew Scott Andrew Libby. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years Elsie Libby; Step mother Vivian Libby; children, Sherry Sawyer & Husband Mike; Christine Ayers; Alton Libby Jr.; Michael Libby & partner Tina; Valerie Harrington & husband Ross; Altona Lenhart & husband Jim and his siblings Pat Dance & husband Jim; Gordon Libby & wife Deedee; David Libby & partner Sharon; John (Willis) Libby & wife Leanna;, and Linda Verney & husband Jay; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. With respect to Alton’s wishes there will be no funeral services, a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
