Obituary of Helen Louise Hughes

She was 98 years of beautiful. On Saturday, April 28, 2018, the life of a remarkable woman, Helen Louise McCarthy Hughes, came to a peaceful end in Camden, ME. She was born in September of 1919 at Pottstown, PA. Always elegant, gentle, and fun, nothing mattered more to her than playing with her kids. And she did, from coast to coast and around the world. She adored her children, Robert and his wife, Pat, Mary Ann and her husband Bill, Michael and his wife, Andrea, son Thomas, and daughter Patricia. Louise had seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hughes’s late husband, Robert James Hughes was a physician. They married June 3, 1944 when he was a Captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mrs. Hughes participated in many social activities. She actively supported the Bangor Historical Society, Bangor Garden Club, Junior League of Bangor, Athene Club, Current Events Club, Patron of the Arts at UMO, St. John’s Catholic Church, P.E.O., and Camden Garden Club. She was a member of the DAR, and the Mayflower Society. For over 25 years, she rarely missed a performance of the Bangor Symphony.
