Obituary of Sherman Walter Davis
Sherman “Sherm” Walter Davis, 67, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018 surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born November 4, 1950 in Bangor the son of Walter R. and Doris M. Davis. He was raised in Bucksport where he attended Bucksport High School. Sherman started working for Sprague Energy in Bucksport and then went on to become a self employed wood cutter until taking a job at Wardwell Construction. He developed a love of the sea as a deck hand on numerous boats and achieved his Captains license in Bar Harbor. Sherman moved to Spring Hill, FL. where he worked as a fabricator and welder at a wrought iron fence company before returning to Maine and working at Rockland Marine as a ship welder and finishing his career.
Sherman loved the woods where he would hunt, trap, and fish. He was especially fond of ice, brook and lake fishing. He grew up farming with his father and loved working with oxen and many different farm animals. Sherman enjoyed motorcycles and was a proud member of the motorcycle group Exiles which he served in with honor until the end of his life. He was also a member of the American Legion of Rockland.
He is predeceased by his parents. Sherman is survived by his son Travis Atwood and girlfriend Elke Hawes of Orland, daughter Jennifer Rogers and husband Kevin of Boothbay Harbor; grandchildren Jesse Davis of Verona and Chyanne Rogers; sister Darlene Whitemore and husband Wes of Bucksport; brother Sheridan Davis and wife Deidra of Holden; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
