Obituary of Elizabeth Haldane Sawtelle

Elizabeth Bradshaw Haldane Sawtelle - 85 Betty Sawtelle became an angel on Nov 2, 2017 following a long period of declining health. She was raised in Maine, the daughter of Rev. Robert Haldane Sr. and Inez Elwell Haldane. She attended Madison H.S and developed many close relationships there that continued throughout her lifetime. The "J-MOB" were close and treasured friends that will likely be continuing their antics in heaven. These gals introduced her to her husband Bob, who shared her life and love for 63 years. She obtained her Business degree at Husson College and worked in the guidance department at Westbrook Junior High School for 27 years. Betty greeted children with her loving smile and reassurances and will be remembered fondly by so many. Betty was a talented and prolific writer and poet. Many of her works have been presented as gifts to friends and loved ones. She was so proud of her 2 published books "Journey from the Heart' and "The Light Within". Betty and Bob made their home in Westbrook and raised their family to honor faith, family and church. She was a Youth Christian Education Leader and served on many committees and boards in the Congregational churches she attended. She was predeceased by her brother-Rev Robert Haldane Jr. and her parents. She is survived by her soulmate Robert J. Sawtelle, her 4 children: David and wife Cathy Sawtelle of Yarmouth, Ken and wife Debbie Sawtelle of Portland, Janis and husband Bob Jensen of Westbrook and Scott and wife Jackie Sawtelle of Yarmouth; her six beloved grandchildren: Alisha, Brian and Christopher Jensen and their partners, Elizabeth and Ross Larrabee, Eric Sawtelle and his partner, and Ben Sawtelle; eight beautiful great-grandchildren: Abigail, Julia and Natalie DeVille, Shelby Nicholas and Granton Nicholas-Sawtelle, Wyatt and Joel Larrabee and Landon Jensen; she was great-nana to many wonderful "grand-dogs and cats". She is also survived by her sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends spread across the world from England to Australia. A celebration of life and memorial service will be held on Nov.18th at 11 am at the Westbrook Warren Congregational church, followed by an hour of fellowship. Betty will be buried alongside her parents in a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, cards and contributions may be sent to Robert Sawtelle c/o Coastal Manor 20 W.
