Obituary of Richard Bourcier

Richard Bourcier 51, passed away unexpectedly August 16th, 2017. He was surrounded by family and some of his closest friends as his beautiful soul transitioned to the other side. The incredible void left as a result is felt by family and friends near and far. Rick had a gift of making everyone he knew feel special and an ability to strike up a friendship in a matter of minutes with anyone's path he crossed. He was the kind of guy who saw the importance in every single person, from every walk of life, whether friend, family member, or stranger and he always made sure to let each and every one of them know just how important they were. He had an infectious smile, an adventurous and playful nature, and a heart larger than the universe. Rick embodied the art of living in the present moment. He had a zest for life and lived each day as if it may be his last, cherishing all those he loved and spent time with, never taking a single moment for granted. He lived a more fulfilling life than most people who live years longer, because he knew what the important things in life really were. Rick relocated to Maine eight years ago from his home state of Rhode Island to reconnect with his "Maine Family" and put down roots in a spectacular lake house on Sebago Lake; A place that he adored and loved to call home. There, we made countless memories with him over the years and this special place and Sebago Lake will forever be near and dear to all those who loved Rick. Some of his favorite things included reminiscing about his college days at USM, his Sigma Nu Fraternity Brothers, his Goodwill and IDEXX "families", Jimmy Buffet Concerts, his Buddha quotes, kayaking or floating on the lake, taking in the beauty of the sunrise and sunset from his lake house, morning coffee and orange blossoms with friends and family, campfires, playing beer pong (especially on Team Mean), zilch, disc golf and polish horseshoes, especially rubbing it in when he won. Jameson shots with Ben at the ice shack, Coors light or a nice glass of wine, playing with the kiddos, entertaining and spending time with friends and family and telling stories. Boy could he tell stories! He had a memory as sharp as a tack and could describe each one in vivid detail. We are blessed to have one of his most infamous stories on video. Rick was a die-hard Yankees, Raiders, "Canadians”, and Penn State fan and loved his fantasy football and baseball teams. He was a proud Republican that loved to razz the liberals and welcomed a good debate with anyone who was willing. He was "Uncle Rick" to not only his biological nieces and nephews but also to his close friends’ children. His ability to relate to and connect with kids was incredible, they adored him and he adored them. He was also a hopeless romantic that really knew how to treat a woman and was affectionately referred to as Pepe Le Pew in his younger years. How he managed to not settle down long term with someone we will never know, because he was the catch of all catches! The hole in our hearts from losing Rick will never be repaired but the lessons he taught us will live on forever. Thank you Rick for showing us all how we should live, but most importantly how to really love. Richard is the son of the late Sylvio and Leona Bourcier and is survived by four brothers; Ronald, Michael, David and Dennis Bourcier, and four sisters; Diane Fafard, Linda Beauchemin, Anne Marie Halberg, Jacqueline Bourcier and is predeceased by his sister Shirley Ruhland. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff in the Special Care Unit at Maine Medical Center, for all they did and for their compassion. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 PM at Ricks lake house located at 101 Smooth Ledge Rd., Standish. A Celebration of his life will follow at Ben McDonald's house located at 5 Colby Drive in Standish.
