So long after the fact...
I grew up in Falmouth and went to school with Stan aka "Griskie". We even rode the same school bus for a number of years. Stan was a good guy; a gentle soul.
In eight grade shop class we each had a special project. Mine was a mahogany coffee table done as a cobblers bench. Well, in sanding the top I grooved the surface. Our teacher, Mr. Reeves, delegated Stan to help me out and correct the mistake. He was more than up to the task.
I still own that table and think of Stan and a time long ago when I look at it.
I'm sure he's missed.

Toni, We both will always have such fond memories of all the wonderful adventures we shared with Stan (and you and all your wonderful canine companions!) since our college years. Boating and hiking around the islands, sharing picnics and barbecues at the beautiful home that Stan built, sharing New Mexico with you both, and so much more. We will always remember Stan fondly. Our thoughts are with you Toni and we send our love. Lynn and Philip Welsch

Fair winds and following seas my life-long friend. From the time we met in 5th grade, I stood in awe of your keen eye for detail and your incredible patience. I learned so much from you that I have found use for in my life and my career. A more true friend I could not have had. As teenagers, the countless hours we romped the roads and beaches of Long Island, the countless hours on the water exploring the islands and waterways of Casco Bay have given me a boat load of memories to cherish forever. We always figured your veins coursed with sea water and I still believe that to have been true. We all miss you and are reminded of you every time we are out on those familiar waters. Toni, our love and hugs to you as you move forward and we wish you strength and good days and look forward to seeing you again soon. Lots of love, David, Kathy, Andrew, Nate and Nick.

Dear Toni, I am so sorry to have read of Stan's passing this week in the paper. It's been many years since we last saw each other, but I've often thought of you and wondered how you were doing. Your grieving will have its own schedule and your life has now turned a corner. My thoughts will still be with you as you journey on. Hugs to you and to your sisters. Nancy Kenoyer Neely, now of Milbridge, ME.

Stan was gifted in so many ways - an artist, craftsman, outdoorsman, mariner and more. So glad we got to know him and share some adventures together. We can see him at the helm heading out to the islands - farewell friend

March 4, 2015, a friend of Stan's sent me this email message: "… Toni, just in case you didn’t know, Stan is one of the heroes of my world, a truly mythic and wonderfully unique individual… an artist of the first order… he found what in Buddhism they would call his suchness early, and trusted it, and lived by it… that’s what heroes do… that’s what world creators do… … what a mysterious journey life is… so full of challenge… so full of grace… with love… swh

One of my fondest memories of Stan was the evening of the FHS Class of '68 "senior prom" Rather than the traditional dance in the gym, we opted to have a Casco Bay Lines dance/cruise instead. Once underway, my date and I went out on the forward deck for some fresh air. We could look up to the wheel house, and there was Stan at the helm, piloting good ship through the waters he knew so well. The smile on his face was as big as the ship itself. So many good memories from those school days we shared. Tomi, I am so glad we were able to spend some time with you and Stan last summer. Stan has found his safe harbor.
