Obituary of Bruce Graham Morang

EAST WINTHROP - Bruce Graham Morang of East Winthrop, Maine, born on Nov. 14, 1942 - died Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Last Tuesday, Bruce had just arrived at his favorite place in the whole world, his camp in the North Maine Woods known as 9-Mile, when he was killed in a freak accident involving his truck. This trip to 9-Mile in the St. John River Valley marked his 48th consecutive year of visiting his beloved hunting cabin where he welcomed many of his out-door-loving friends who shared his passion for hunting and fishing over the years. Bruce was an icon and a character this world will not soon forget. He grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School. He was born an only child to Claude Merle Morang and Sylvia (Haskell) Morang, but was raised in the bosom of a large and nurturing extended family. From these roots Bruce developed his unique personality and his 'knack" for enjoying life. In the early years, friends will remember good times playing badminton and swinging off the rope swing at his summer camp on Webber Pond. The good times continued when he and his wife moved to their home at the north shore of Cobbossee. Softball games on the ice, volleyball tournaments, and water skiing with a great gang of friends headed by Bruce were just a few of the many activities enjoyed. It was here among treasured neighbors that Bruce began to raise pigeons and children. His children's friends became his friends. His neighbors have all become lifelong friends. Bruce retired from Bath Iron Works after a satisfying career that he was well suited for. Here he developed many friendships which remained with him throughout his retirement. He was an avid pigeon racer whose birds traveled all over the Northeast with Central Maine Pigeon Flyers winning many championships. His pigeon's bloodlines are still racing today! Bruce was a people-person with loads of charisma that naturally attracted people from all walks of life. His talent for giving nicknames is legendary and most have remained with the recipient for life (for better or worse). Music was a passion for him. He could quickly name a song, year it came out, and the artist. He was generous to all, loved to "eedle" ears, had the bluest eyes ever, and according to him...was "Rough, tough, hard to bluff and gosh darn good looking." He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Martha (Frances) Morrill; his son Noah (Buckshot) Morang and his wife Alayna Morang of Brewer, his daughter Molly (The Ocokett) Williams and her husband, Jason Williams of Augusta. He also leaves behind his three cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Maxwell (cornbread) and Douglas. A brief memorial service will be held at the East Winthrop Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017. A time of fellowship and remembrance to celebrate Bruce's life will follow at the Stevens Common Hallowell, Winthrop Street, Hallowell. People are asked to bring anything they would like to share about Bruce: photos, songs, memories...along with a lawn chair to sit on! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Kennebec Valley Humane Society 10 Pethaven Lane, Augusta, ME 04330
