WINTHROP – Elsie Graham, 89, formerly of Monmouth and Augusta, passed away on July 27, 2017. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 20, 1927, the daughter of Peter and Margrethe Gulowsen. Elsie grew up in Brooklyn, moving to Bellerose in Queens, NY at the age of ten. She graduated from high school in Jamaica, NY, and attended Deleharty Institute, a business school in New York. On January 20, 1947, she married Malcolm Ray Graham, Jr., and they settled in Monmouth, Maine. They were married 59 years until his death in 2006. She worked at Albany Felt (now TexTech) in North Monmouth for 6 years. She was employed by the Davis Agency in Monmouth for 12 years. She worked for the Bureau of Rehabilitation (DHS) for many years, retiring in 1987. Elsie loved living in Monmouth and made lifelong friends there: The Johnsons, Jacksons, Walkers and Pooles. She was a member of the Sociable 8 Bridge Club for 55 years. She enjoyed her years at the United Church of Monmouth, and as a volunteer at the Vestry Thrift Shop. She is survived by her son, Ray, and his partner Melissa Prince, of Monmouth; her daughter: Nancy and husband Colin Webb of England, UK; a granddaughter, Angela Audette and her partner, Rick Campbell, of Jefferson; and her great-grandchildren: Alex and Mallory Audette. Elsie, and the family, are very grateful for the special, compassionate friendship shown to her by Gail DiBiaso. At Elsie’s request, there will be no visitation; however, a graveside service at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Donations may be sent to NEADS Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans, PO Box 213, West Boylston, MA 01583.
