Lt/Col. Gloria Fernandez So sad to see you on the orbit of SAFN. Puerto Rico was a fun assignment with you. I remember the great pitching softball arm you had. No other could hit your pitches. You will be greatly missed.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are also mourning with you the death of our friend and colleague, Lieutenant Colonel Mary P. Hardy. You are not alone in remembering a truly wonderful person who made a difference in the lives of so many as she journeyed through life. Mary was an original member of the Society which celebrated it's 30th anniversary this past year; a donation will be made in her memory as requested. She will be missed, and she will not be forgotten by her Air Force Nursing Family! Linda J. Stierle, Brigadier General, USAF (Retired)

Mary , you are missed . Love your feisty Spirit. My Best salute for you Sister Wing Nut , enjoy those wings . High Flight by John Gillespie Magee, J Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air . . . Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew — And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Mary was one of the most straightforward, humorous, and inspiring persons I have ever met. Our lives will not be the same without her---but, luckily, her memory will be with us always. Keep watching over us, our friend! Barbara K. Chesney
