Obituary of Charles E. Leach
STEUBEN - Charles “Chick” E. Leach went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1942 in Perry, Maine, son of Russell Leach and Margaret (Kendall) Leach Sullivan.
Chick was a jack-of-all-trades. He did everything from carpentry, plumbing and machinery to clamming. But, his true passions were fishing on the ocean and art. He was well known for his original lath art and he described his artistic talents as "God Given." His legacy is and always will be his family. His family was his world and he was their rock...their hero. His faith, family, and prayers carried him through the daily struggles with his disease.
Chick is survived by Theresa Stanwood, to whom he was married for 44 years; his children: Leisa Crowley and her partner Norman Newenham who was also Chick’s long-time good friend, Russell Leach, Brenda Ledezma and husband Andres, David Leach and his wife Megan, Nadine Barnes (favorite daughter, haha) and her husband Heath; his siblings that he looked up to: Arlene Kierstead and Howard Leach; grandchildren: Donnie and wife Christine, Michael, Kevin and Julie, their children Jackson and Gavin, Nichole and husband Robert, Angela and fiancé Ryan, their children; Jayden, Alexander, and Kennedy, Samantha, Samuel, William and his children Haley, Camron, Autumn, and Emma, Randy and Angela, their children Britton and Kenzie, Robbie, Michaela, Jacob, Leia, Aaron, Kiandra (he nicknamed her Kiwi!) and Raquel, nephews; Glenn, Mike and Gary, predeceased by nephews; Georgie, Gregory, and Mark, predeceased by a very special aunt Leona Kendall, a very special friend and cousin Bill Kendall, special friends Willard Kelley, Sidney Vandergrift, Harry Newenham, predeceased by friend and brother-in-law, Thurston Pinkham, and so many other friends, too many to list. His beloved and loyal dog, Seaweed, stayed beside him until the very end.
The family sends a very heartfelt thank you to all who helped with his care. He became so close to his hospice and MCMH caregivers. Dr Sean Maloney was not only his doctor but also his friend. He truly loved each and every one of you!
A celebration of life will be held at the Ella Lewis School Gym in Steuben on Sunday April 9, 2017 at 2:00pm.
