Obituary of Lewis G. Mountain

Lewis (Sonny) Goodwin Mountain Jr., age 74, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in southern Maine. He was born December 12, 1942 in Milo, Maine; the son of Lewis Goodwin Mountain Sr and Grace Evelyn Buswell (Mountain). He grew up in Milo and later helped raise his family in Dover-Foxcroft. In 1961, he joined the US Air Force where he honorably served until 1965 as an Airman 2nd class. After leaving the Air Force, he started working for ATT Long Lines and traveled the East Coast before settling in Dover-Foxcroft where he started work for New England Telephone. He worked for various phone companies in Maine and retired with over 32 years of dedicated service. In retirement, he loved spending time and volunteering at the American Legion Post 29 in Dover-Foxcroft. Lew loved the outdoors and the State of Maine; spending time at Ebeemee Lake and Mattamiscontis Mountain, where he was a charter member of the R.O.P. Lew is survived by his three children: daughter Melissa (Mountain) Buzza and her sons, Patrick and Reid of Auburn, ME, son Todd Mountain and his wife Jeani of Kodiak, Alaska and son Eric Mountain and his wife Rina and their children Riley and Corbin of Niceville, Florida; his dear sister Patricia A. (Mountain) Ricker of Milo, Maine and his nephew Glenn Ricker and his wife Darlene of Milo, Maine. He is also survived by his special angel, Gail Snipe of Bath, Maine. Lew would tell anyone he met about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by both his parents: Lewis Mountain Sr and Grace Mountain and his nephew Mitchell Ricker. Anyone who knew Lew or Sonny had to know his love of New England sports. To see the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Maine Black Bear hockey team all win titles was priceless to him. A memorial will be held at the Chadbourne-Merrill American Legion Post 29, 78 Park St in Dover-Foxcroft on Sunday, March 26th at 1 p.m. A burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Milo, Maine at a later date. Donations can be made in Lew's memory to Heartwise at 891 West Main St, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine or American Legion Post 29 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.
