Obituary of Granville G Miller

Granville Miller born November 4th, 1930 went gently into that good night to be with his “Best Buddy” on January 24, 2017. Granville grew up in the South Warren area and later in life moved to Belfast until eventually moving to Courtland Rehab and Living Center in Ellsworth. Granville made friends wherever he found himself and at Courtland he took on the role of greeter shortly after moving there. Granville would welcome people at the door with a “Hello Buddy” and a handshake. Granville developed a great relationship with the staff and peers both at Courtland and at Group Home Foundation. Granville had an interest in fire trucks and he had a collection of fireman memorabilia he collected and displayed in his room. Granville had great respect for firefighters and policeman and after the attacks of “911” he drew a picture to honor rescue personnel that he then had framed and presented to the fireman’s museum in Belfast. Granville also submitted several drawings to a national arts competition that featured works by people with disabilities and one of his pieces was selected to be part of their video presentation that was displayed throughout the country. Granville enjoyed Dolly Parton, Porter Wagner, Johnny Cash, and other singers of this era and when inspired would yodel and play his guitar. Granville had a mischievous side to his character and he was known to befriend people who would offer him snacks and treats that he shouldn’t have and had been known to tease and play some surprising tricks on people. Granville enjoyed putting puzzles together and he actively participated in activities at Courtland. Granville was predeceased by his father Earl Miller, his mother Marguerite (Lermond) Miller, his brother Arlo Miller, his sister Rebecca Miller, his brother-in-law Robert Montgomery and his nephew Roland Peters Jr.. He is survived by his sister Tessie Montgomery, who now lives in Camden, his nieces and nephews Kelley Peters, Marlene and her husband Bruce Libby, Gary Peters, and Roland Peters. Granville had many long-time friends: Renuad Cloutier and his children Kristina, Katelyn and Kyle, Alma, Earl, James, John, Diane, Marie, Margene, Sue, Cindy, Sharon and Terrie that he enjoyed visits from and inquired about regularly. A memorial service will be held Friday February 24, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME 04915.
