Obituary of William C. Reinhardt

William "Bill" Carlton Reinhardt passed away on January 18th, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. His last wish, to be at home, was granted and he went peacefully with his loving wife and other family members by his side. Bill was born on June 7, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to Thurman and Olive Reinhardt. He attended schools in Glen Burnie, MD and after high school, he entered the US Army. He served his time in Korea. After discharge from the Army, he spent 22 years in law enforcement; 18 of those years were with the Baltimore City Police Department. After that, he held several industrial construction and security positions before retiring from Jackson Lab. In 1994, he met the love of his life, Linda Rose Ranquist. Bill loved Maine at first sight and in 1998, Bill and Linda were married on Swans Island, Linda's childhood home. They eventually bought a home and settled in Hancock. Bill had many interests, including hunting and fishing, woodcarving and writing. Once retired, he was able to devote more time to his gardens. He was an excellent cook and family always looked forward to a special feast when they visited. One of Bill's greatest gifts was his capacity for caring. He was a kind and gentle man who taught us all more about unconditional love. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joy and sons Robert and Michael. He is survived by his wife Linda; brother Butch; children William Reinhardt, Jr and Angela Mitchum; step-children Laurie Pibil, Michael Thomas, and Kristin Thomas; grandchildren Robert and Steven Reinhardt and Brandon Mitchum; step-grandchildren Justyn, Jordan, Jarek and Jace Pibil and Owen and Joss Thomas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a special niece Johanna Monka. The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for their guidance, compassion and support. A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday January 27, 2017 at Riposta Funeral Home/Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
