Obituary of James F Small
James Frederick Small (Jim), passed away on January 18th at the age of 84. He was surrounded by an abundance of family, love and laughter.
Jim, the middle child of three children, was born on April 27, 1932 in Biddeford, Maine to the late Elmer and Frances Small.
Jim had numerous interests and loves. The greatest of all of them was his wife of 57 years Barbara (Bowman). They married on October 18, 1959 and had six children. They raised their six children in Medway, Massachusetts and in 1988 Jim retired from Anchor Motor Freight and they moved to Sangerville, Maine. Jim appreciated the great outdoors like no other. He enjoyed hunting, boating and sailing, fishing, woodworking and the ample wildlife outside his windows. He was also known to be an enthusiastic sports fan. Jim was a Veteran Corporal of the Korean War. He served from 1952 to 1954.
Jim will be remembered best for his quick wit, sense of humor and his generosity. He never missed an opportunity to hold court even up until his last moments.
Jim’s love and laughter will be missed by so many; his wife Barbara; sister Elaine Pollard of Plymouth, MA; brother Eric and June Small of Sandwich, MA; his children Roseanne Stevens of Brooksville, FL; Linda Hauge of Taunton, MA; Bradley and Linda Small of Uxbridge, MA; David Small and his girlfriend Shelly Rapp of Whitinsville, MA; Lisa and Michael Landry of Blackstone, MA; Karen and John Carneiro of Franklin, MA; and Heather and Todd Cornell of Brewster, MA. Also fortunate enough to have known him were his grandchildren; Terri Cox, Lori Marc Draper, Laura Thrasher, Ashley Hauge, Danielle, Jeffrey and Lauren Small, Eric, Amanda and Taylor Small, Jason and Ryan Landry, Samantha Goldstein, Robert, Joseph and Bailey Carneiro and Tanner, Mason and Sara Cornell. Also great-grandchildren Casey and Jenna Draper, Preston, Cheyenne, McKenzie and Zoey Cox, Bill and Hailey Thrasher, Michael Hauge, and Christian Goldstein.
The family is especially grateful for all the support of Jim’s good friends Gary, Terry, Bob and Connie. Also a special thank you to all of the staff from Mayo Regional Hospital for all of their assistance.
At Jim’s request, no services will be held.
