Obituary of Dorothy Mayo Richards
DOROTHY MAYO RICHARDS
1922-2016
Dorothy Richards was born February 23, 1922 in Framingham, MA. She was the daughter of Walter and Ada (Towse) Mayo. She was one of six daughters, all preceding her in death. They were Eleanor Fletcher of Juno Beach, FL; Marjorie Stewart of Hopedale, Ma; Joanne Nyerges of Westlake, OH; Helen Robinson of Steuben, ME and Sally Ewart of Las Vegas, NV.
Dorothy graduated with honors from the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing in 1944.
In 1945, Dorothy and Howard Richards of Lakewood, Ohio, were married. Howard and Dorothy were married for 54 years when Howard died in 1999 after a long illness.
Survived by her family, son Fred Richards and wife Mary of Malvern, Ohio; daughter Martha Kohlwey and husband Dean of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter Kim Mast and partner Tammie Cunningham of Foster, Rhode Island; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and wide circle of friends.
She enjoyed a full life. Always a traveler, she told great stories, was a warrior for the underdog, a fine weaver and tailor, good cook, fierce mother and loving caregiver, but most of all, a person of character.
As she wished, she died in Maine on November 20, 2016.
