Obituary of Margaret Raws

Margaret “Marny” (Shaw) Raws, 77, of Gardiner, left us on December 24, 2016 to join her family in the afterlife. She suffered from the effects of Parkinson’s disease. She was born on July 6, 1939 to Wallace and Dorothy Shaw in Augusta. She will be missed by all for her smile, her laugh, her boundless energy and love for her family. Marny, as she was known, graduated from Cony High School in 1957. She was the oldest of 12 children, growing up in Augusta. She then married and moved to Dorchester, MA. Once done raising her children, she joined Polaroid Corp. and worked there for many years. She took an early retirement from Polaroid then worked as the assistant Harbormaster in Scituate, MA, where she retired after 10 years. She married W. Edwin Raws in August of 1984. Marny enjoyed life and her family. She was a fantastic cook. She loved being active: ran a number of road races, including marathons; owned and rode her horse Will E; was an avid skier, ski instructor and coached the Massachusetts Special Olympic Ski Team, going with them in 1989 to Lake Tahoe, NV; and enjoyed playing golf. She was predeceased by her parents, 5 siblings: Julie, Sally, Kathy, Wally and Jake; her son Michael Sheehan Raws; and grandchild Emily Thompson. She is survived by her husband, W. Edwin Raws, six siblings: Sue, Cookie, Danny, Steph, Geena and Silvia; her children: Kate, Margie, Betsy, John and Sean; her grandchildren: Josh with wife Christine, Ben with wife Aom, Jesse with wife Nancy, Ethan, Abby, Noah, Reese, Isabel and Ruby; and her great-grandchildren: Connor “Bubba”, Michael, and Nate. Her ashes will be spread along with her son’s in the ocean off Scituate Harbor, MA. At Marny’s request, there will be no services. In lieu of gifts, she requested any donations be made in her honor for Parkinson’s research, Wounded Warrior Project or your local animal shelter.
