Obituary of Marlene Marie Geneseo

AUGUSTA - Marlene Marie (Cote) Geneseo of Augusta passed away Wednesday Nov. 23, 2016, at Glenridge nursing facility in Augusta after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. She was born Nov. 13, 1950, in Jonesport, to Denis Cote and Arlene Randall. She was predeceased by her husband Paul Geneseo (1994); father Denis Cote, mother Arlene Randall; brother Luland Cote, half brother Kendrick Randall; and the woman who raised her from infancy, Mary Jane St. Germaine (Momma). Marlene was raised from infancy by Mary Jane St. Germaine and her daughters Marge (Hall) and Cam (Bates). She lived with both sisters at multiple times through her teen years, until moving to Florida with Paul where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy. Summer vacations were often spent with Marge and Dick Hall and their children Rick, Everette, Pat, Marie, Ira, and Bobby. The love and compassion of the Hall family, like the St. Germaines before, had an incredible impact on Marlene and helped shape the way she wanted her and Paul's family to be. These families are truly loved by Marlene and her family! She is survived by son Tony Geneseo and his wife Kim, daughter Dawn Holbrook, son Dana Geneseo; brother Sheldon Cote and his wife Gwen of Millinocket, brother Zenith Cote of Glenburn; grandchildren: Dane and Dylan Geneseo, sons of Tony and Melanie Donovan Geneseo; Bailey Geneseo, daughter of Tony and Cathy Wynne Geneseo; Anna, Jack, Peter and Paul Holbrook, children of Jon and Dawn Holbrook; Jake and Nick Geneseo, sons of Dana and Amanda Rowe Geneseo; and one great-grandchild Madilynn, daughter of Dane and Brianna Mckenna Geneseo. Aside from spending time with her family and friends, Marlene also enjoyed camping, atving, bonfires and having cookouts. She was a great seamstress and could make anything requested with a needle, thread, fabric, and her beloved sewing machine! She truly enjoyed her "Bailey and Gymie" (the nickname given to her by her oldest grandchild Dane) nights and having sleepovers at Cathy and Bailey's. She even enjoyed stacking wood with Dana, Jake, and Nick every fall. She also loved spending time with her best friend Diana Dube and Diana's sister Elaine whether it be shopping for groceries, Christmas, or just a random excursion to Walmart. She would also spend weekends with Diana and her husband Peter on their farm cleaning pens or mucking the stalls. She loved loved those weekends!! Probably her favorite pastime was working in her gardens, which filled the families properties. With a natural "green thumb" and an amazing ability to grow anything she decided she needed in one of her gardens. More than once bringing back seemingly dead plants or shrubs with the knowledge and tlc that few possess! Marlene (Gymie) will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and anyone that ever had the pleasure of meeting her. She was reunited with the love of her life, Paul, as she walked through those pearly gates after being apart for almost exactly to the day, 22 years. You were loved and cherished and will be missed everyday!! A service for Marlene will be held Friday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. at Maine Veterans Cemetery chapel, at the new cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta. All are welcome. There will also be a gathering and celebration of life at Tony and Kim Geneseo's at 31 Stony Brook Rd. in Augusta
