Obituary of Margaret E Jones
WALDOBORO – Margaret E. Jones, age 96, died November 3, 2016 at Waldoboro, Maine. Known by her friends and family as Eleanor, she was one of seven children of Vincent A. and Ada Rendle Jones, formerly of Island Falls and Richmond, Maine. Born June 12, 1920 in Island Falls, Maine, Eleanor attended local schools and upon graduation attended Farmington Normal School. Thereafter, she taught grade school in the Brunswick, Maine school system.
On June 1, 1944, Eleanor enlisted for active duty as a WAVE serving as a pharmacist assistant. Upon separation from service on February 5, 1946, she attended Massachusetts School of Pharmacy, graduating in June 1950.
After graduation from pharmacy school, Eleanor moved to Richmond, Maine where her parents had established a convenience store. There she established a pharmacy, which she operated after her father’s death in 1951 until her retirement in 1990. During the 1960s and 70s, she opened and operated, in addition to the drug store in Richmond, a clothing store in Richmond, a medical supplies business in Bath, and a drug store in Boothbay Harbor.
Eleanor, being very supportive of education, served on the Richmond School Board and financially assisted some of her nieces and nephews with their secondary education. Because of her help and encouragement for continued education, many family members enjoyed successful careers. Eleanor encouraged her family members to be all that they could be and will be very much missed.
All of her siblings having predeceased her, Eleanor is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews.
Any plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
