Obituary of Elmore R. Clough

Elmore "Bill" R. Clough, 73, of Winslow, passed away on Friday, October 28th with his loving companion Cynthia and daughter by his side. He fought gallantly for 7yrs from one health issue after another, never complaining and never giving up. He was brave and stoic and always continued to smile right up till the end. Although he never gave up, his body could no longer fight and he passed peacefully into the arms of our Savior Jesus. Bill and his late wife Joan raised three stepsons and one daughter together. Although none of the four kids were his blood it shows the character of the man he was: that it mattered not and he loved, cared, and provided for them as if they were. Along with raising his children, he helped to raise and guide several of his grandchildren. When Joan got sick, he once again displayed those endearing qualities that made everyone love him. If Joan could no longer do, the loving, kind husband stepped forward and did. He did the laundry, stirred the dough for rolls, washed the dishes and cared for the woman he loved who could no longer physically do things she once did. When Joan died, Bill was brokenhearted and lost until he met Cynthia Lambert, who became his loving companion. And just like Bill with his children, Cynthia’s children welcomed Bill into their hearts as one of their own. The selfless man Bill was made him always ready to lend a hand. Whatever help someone needed, he was there, which included the work he chose to do in life. He was proud of his 29 years of military service, Master at Arms in the Navy, and Army Reserves. He was also a police officer and security guard. Always about others! Always protecting! He enjoyed hanging out with his family and friends listening to country music; traveling the country to see some sites; hunting, fishing, square dancing: He loved it all. We rarely understand why God allows certain things to happen but there are those occasions when we do see His hand. As great a job as Bill had done taking care of his sick wife, Cynthia did as beautiful a job taking care of him through seven years of illness. She never left his side and fought every step of the way! It is with grateful hearts from all family members and friends we say thank you for taking such great care of this wonderful man. While this tribute could go on for a long time talking about all the wonderful love this man had for those he knew and the love and adoration those who knew him had for him, it is time to say good bye. Bill was predeceased by his parents Robert and Marion Clough, wife of 39 yrs, Joan, and long-time friend Joe Plisga. Bill leaves behind stepsons: Danny Hale and wife Dorothy, David Hale and wife Ellen, Fletcher Hale and wife Jessie; daughter Tawnya Clough; fiancée Cynthia Lambert and her children: John Lambert and wife Lisa, Renee Raymond and husband Gary, Rachael Currie and husband Sean, and Michael Lambert and wife Michelle; brothers: Robert Clough and his wife Joanne and Fred Clough and his wife Roberta; twin sister Barbara Butterfield with her husband Dennis; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and long-time friends, especially John & Irleen Guidry and Kitty Plisga. He was called many things: Bill, Elmore, Mr. Clough, Veteran, Officer, Husband, Companion, and Friend, but I called him Dad. I leave you with the final words between a father and his daughter: "I love you, Dad" to which he responded, "I love you, pumpkin".
