Obituary of Lorraine Woodman
Lorraine “Laurie” Lemander Woodman, 89, of Summer St. in Sanford, Maine, passed away peacefully Friday, August 12, 2016 at Greenwood Center with family and friends were at her side.
Born March 24, 1927 in Quincy, Massachusetts to George Ericson and Rhoda Lemander, she was the youngest of three children and was preceded in death by her sister Theresa Marie Lemander LaFlame (1924-2002) and brother George Francis Lemander (1921-1975). Laurie graduated from Nashua High School and went on to study music at Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. During that time she met her soon-to-be husband Paul H. Woodman Jr. and together they joined a Swing band where Laurie was the vocalist and Paul the drummer. They were married on November 30, 1947 in Hudson, N.H. and lived in South Merrimack, N.H. She was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Nashua and was often heard singing over the radio during many of the church's live broadcasts. During that time she also enjoyed antiquing and sewing. She later discovered the art of quilt making, and in her later years she was rarely seen without her crossword puzzle book.
In 1967 the family moved to Sanford, Maine where she soon joined the Baptist church choir. She was also a wedding singer and contributed her vocal talents to the local high school production of The Miracle Worker.
Laurie worked at Vishay Spague in South Sanford for 28 years as a quality control inspector. She was a loving mother and wonderful wife to her husband who was physically disabled for over 27 years. She worked nights and ran the household in every capacity, keeping the bills paid and food on the table without complaint. She could always be heard singing while doing housework and will forever be remembered for her infinitely positive, upbeat personality. As a grandmother she was without equal and never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with her grandchildren, which inevitably led to cookies and ice cream.
Laurie is survived by a son, Scott Paul Woodman and his wife Elizabeth (Aiken) Woodman of Milton, N.H.; daughter Carole and her husband Gregory Prisk Paddock of Pasadena, California; four grandchildren, Jackson and Harrison Woodman; Kylie and Aidan Paddock; five nephews, Steven LaFlame of Newport, N.H.; Peter LaFlame of Salisbury, V.T.; Thomas LaFlame of Hopkinton, N.H.; John LaFlame of Wingate, N.C. and Chris LaFlame of Jacksonville, Florida. We also wish to include Catherina Masters Plen, husband Michael and their son Everette of Malibu, California whom Laurie dearly loved and regarded as family. Laurie requested a private family burial.
