Obituary of Claire Rodgers Woodward
Claire Rodgers Woodward, 86, of York Beach, ME died peacefully February 18, 2016 after a brief illness. Claire was born and raised in Cambridge, MA and graduated from the Cambridge High and Latin School. She graduated from Nasson College in Springvale, ME.
Claire was pre-deceased by her husband Hildreth (Woody), her parents Stanley and Dorothy Rodgers of Cambridge, MA, and her brother Stanley Rodgers of San Francisco, CA.
She is survived by her sister Maybelle Buck Piel of West Caldwell, NJ, her sister-in-law, Helen Rodgers of San Francisco, and her sister-in-law and dear friend Priscilla Woodward Dugan of Farmington, CT. She leaves behind her four children and their families: son Kurt (Juliann) of Malta, NY; daughter Lisa Krayeski of Bethel, CT; daughter Nancy (Richard) Reeve of Hudson, NH; and son Dorr (Katherine) of Concord, MA; ten grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Claire also leaves her dear friend and companion Robert E. McDermott of Denmark, ME and his family.
Claire and her husband Woody raised their children in Winchester, MA. Upon retirement they moved to her family's summer home in Wilton, NH where she spent many happy holidays and gatherings with her family and friends. She ultimately fulfilled her lifelong dream of living by the ocean when she moved to York Beach, Maine. During this time Claire was an active member of the community where she volunteered at York Hospital, Nubble Light House Gift Shop, the Ogunquit Playhouse, and the York Museum. Claire was a parishioner of St. George's Episcopal Church in York, and a dedicated member of the Altar Guild. She treasured her family, community, the beauty of her surroundings, and the opportunity to travel. Claire will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
There will be a memorial service at St. George's Episcopal Church in York, Maine on March 19, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks as an expression of sympathy a memorial contribution in honor of Claire Woodward may be made to York Hospital, c/o Carol Kane, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. All donations will be directed to the Volunteer Program of York Hospital.
