Obituary of Elwood Bruce Hubbard

Elwood "Bruce" Hubbard, 67, of Unity, Maine had an appointment with the Lord and passed peacefully at Togus Hospice on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 from renal cell carcinoma. He was born on January 25, 1949 in Waterville, Maine, the son of John and Shirley (Peavey) Hubbard. He is predeceased by his parents, a daughter Angela in 2008 and several siblings. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Jane; two sons, Kirby and wife Terri, and Adam; grandchildren Hannah and Ethan. He was a graduate of Mount View High School. Bruce served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1971 as a Staff Sargent in Heidelberg, Germany during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Skowhegan Business School. Bruce was a charter member of Kennebec Valley Baptist Church in Waterville. He and his wife were foster parents for ten years. Bruce taught Sunday school, was a KVBC bus driver, Awana Commander, past Deacon, Head Usher. He was also past Gideon member and officer, an organizer of National Day of Prayer in the Waterville area, a New England Organ Bank family speaker for several years. Bruce was a sales rep for Augusta Business Machines for almost 30 years, an appliance salesman at Home Depot and Census Captain. He was a born-again Christian and witnessed to everyone he met. Bruce was witty even up to the time of his passing. He conveyed his desire for all to be saved and have the same peace he possessed. His parting words were "It's all good". Friends and family are invited to visiting hours on Saturday February 27, 2016 from 10-11 am at Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, 91 Marston Road, Waterville, ME where a funeral service will follow at 11 am. A committal will be held at Maine Veterans Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta at 12 pm Monday, February 29, 2016. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in his memory to Gideon’s International, 247 Payne Rd, Scarborough, ME 04074 or to New England Organ and Tissue Bank.
