Obituary of Barbara Davis Hollingsworth

Lincolnville — Barbara Davis Hollingsworth, 88, passed away peacefully at home March 22, 2016. Born in Falls City, Neb., she and her husband, Jack, owned and operated the J bar B Ranch in Holbrook, Neb., where all six of their children were born. Eventually, the family landed in the Atlanta area, where Barb lived and worked for 30 years. Barb and her youngest son, Robert, moved from Pennsylvania to Lincolnville to live with Craig and daughter Jeanne, where she happily spent her days looking at the pond right outside her windows. She instilled in her children a love of life, learning, tradition and nurturing. By her creative example, she inspired them to become gourmet cooks, master gardeners, seamstresses and handymen; to be involved in their communities; and to give comfort and joyfully lend a helping hand. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Jack, daughter Pat Donohue and son John. Daughter Mary resides in Spencer, Mass., and Elizabeth in Ball Ground, Ga.; Pat’s daughters and their children also survive her. According to her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A family memorial service will take place in Maine later this year. Donations may be made in her memory to the DAV, or to the Garden Institute, 122 Mechanic St., Camden, ME 04843, where a garden will be established in her honor.
