Obituary of Clarence Joseph Michaud
ASHLAND and PRESQUE ISLE - Clarence (Babe) Joseph Michaud 93, passed away peacefully on Easter, March 27, 2016 at the Veterans’ Home in Caribou. He was born in Portage, ME., June 13, 1922, the son of Ernest B. and Laura (Paradis) Michaud. Babe attended Portage and Ashland schools. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9699. He was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in Ashland.
On February 21, 1944, he married the love of his life Margaret Frances McGowan. Last year they celebrated their 71st anniversary. Together they owned and operated Michauds Restaurant in Ashland. Babe was physically active throughout his entire life. He played in adult basketball and baseball programs and enjoyed golfing at the Portage Hills Country Club. He and Margaret spent many good times with family and friends at their Big Machias Lake camp where they enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, cooking and cribbage. Babe will be remembered for his sense of humor and his great story-telling ability. He was devoted to his wife Margaret. During her last years while in a nursing home, Babe visited her twice daily.
Clarence was predeceased by his wife Margaret (McGowan) Michaud in 2015 and 8 siblings: Beulah, Juliette, Edmund, Norman, Lawrence, O’Neil, Hector, and Eugene. He is survived by a sister-in-law Maurine (Sutherland) Michaud of Bangor, a special nephew Greg Michaud and wife Vicki of Mapleton, a special niece Debbie (Michaud) Maddi of Winthrop, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his long time friends Vernon and Bobbi MacDonald of Port Charlotte, FL and Helen McDonald of Charlottetown, PEI Canada.
