Obituary of Almont T Haskell

Blue Hill- Almont T. Haskell, 69, sailed to peace and endless beauty at home with his loving wife Wednesday, July 6th. He endured many challenges in life always handling them with strength and courage. He was a kind, gentle, humble man. He was greatly admired and is profoundly missed. Almont was born on April 7, 1947 in Stoneham, MA to Elizabeth Torrey Haskell and Cyrus Brown Haskell who sadly died 3 months after Al was born. He attended school in Massachusetts and California. He graduated from Deer Isle High School. Almont proudly enlisted in the US Navy in 1965; serving until 1969 on the USS New Jersey. He was an EM2- Electrician’s Mate working in electrical distribution. He treasured the reconnection he was able to make with fellow shipmates in recent years. He was a member of the Disabled Veteran Association- Chapter 6. He volunteered and served his community for over 30 years as a member of the Blue Hill Fire Department, serving as Asst. Fire Chief part of that time. He was also a 30 year member of the Masons at Ira Berry Lodge #128. Almont owned and operated Haskell Electric since 1975 alongside his faithful, lifelong co-worker and dear friend Jerry Butler. His business was built on more than financial gain. He took great pride in helping the community we live in and providing service for those in need. He provided electrical service for the Blue Hill Fair for over 40 years. His son Ryan, Andrew and Jeff will continue his vision and uphold his business values. Al was a man of few words but his actions spoke of his great character. He had a big heart and would do most anything to lend a helping hand. He had a keen sense of humor. Anyone lucky enough to know and love him has a funny story or prank he pulled on them. Most importantly was his deep love for his wife, family and close friends. Among his many talents, he was an avid cook. Whether a weeknight or holiday he put a lot of love in the many wonderful meals he prepared. He was known to grill a steak outside sun, rain or snow. He loved watching cooking shows, the history channel and quietly observing politics, always having an opinion but always respecting others. He loved an afternoon nap in his recliner and a smoke while puttering in the yard. He loved fast cars and enjoyed cruising in his beloved 1986 Monte Carlo “Monteford”. However, he was never more happy and content than when he was on the water. The sea ran through his veins, he was born to be on the ocean. His most treasured possession was his boat “Miss Meg”. He was blessed with many wonderful friends and cherished memories of time spent together camping, going on ball trips and playing cards. He treasured his friendship with Connie and Jimmy Wood and Belinda and Peter O’Brien and Julia Gilmore, and their families who he considered to be his own. Almont is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Rosemary Eaton Haskell who is the love of his life for over 46 years; son Ryan Almont Haskell and his wife Michelle and beloved granddaughter Megan; daughter Barbara Elizabeth Haskell and her wife Rhonda and two special grandchildren Nicholas and Ella Rose; his sister Mary Ellen Andrews and her husband Keith; nephew Brent Andrews and his wife Kathy and their children Cole and Abby; niece Ellen Drew and her husband David. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law Michael and Christine Eaton, Norman and Judy Eaton, Annie and Jeff Moore, Virgil and Kim Eaton, and Christopher Martin, and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
