Obituary of Peggy Ann Jason
Peggy Ann Jason, born December 5, 1940, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on June 29, 2016 following long-standing health issues. Her vibrant and melodic laughter brought joy to all she came in contact with. Her sense of humor and zesty choice of clothing set her apart. “Bling” was her trademark signature style; she was the definition of pizzazz. On February 17, 1965, she married the love of her lifetime, Bradley E. Jason, and the unshakable bond they shared was broken only upon his death in 2004. From that day forward, her life was happily filled with friendships and family events; but her desire was to return to the side of her beloved husband. We celebrate that reunion as we mourn the loss of our beautiful mother, grandmother, and friend.
Peggy enjoyed immensely the many breakfasts shared at The Villager restaurant with her posse of friends. She enjoyed visits with childhood friend and like-a-sister, Theresa Hellickson, lovingly referred to as “Tornado Theresa.” Peggy was employed at the Hathaway shirt company for 26 years and developed a vast network of friends. Her presence would light up a room and ignite laughter. She enjoyed yard sailing with her cousin, Norma D. Bourgoin, always on a quest to acquire her next unusual piece of jewelry or clothing. She had an arsenal of phrases we came to refer to as “Peggy-ism’s”, which brought delight to so many. Peggy cherished her grandchildren and found enormous comfort in them following the death of her husband. Despite her chronic illness, she remained active and fiercely independent, not letting poor health dictate the terms of her life. Although we grieve her loss, we celebrate the achievement that was always Peggy’s goal, she is now reunited with her forever love, Brad. Together, they now stand in the company of our Almighty Father and Lord of all. For that, we shed happy tears and our hearts are filled with joy.
Peggy is pre-deceased by her mother, Margaret Carey Simpson and father, Frank Simpson. She is survived by two brothers, Robert Simpson and John Simpson. Although Peggy was the only daughter, she considered loyal and faithful friend, Pat Lachance, to be her sister. Pat was a constant companion and her friendship sustained and supported her. Her pet companion, “Buffy”, brought her comfort. Further, she is survived by three sons: Jeffrey Jason and his partner, Gale Lizzotte; William Jason and his wife, Kathy; and Bradley E. Jason II, all of Winslow; two daughters: Kimberley Robbins of South Carolina and Carolyn Richens and her husband, Stephen, of Pittsfield. Peggy’s grandchildren include Thomas Jason Averill, Ashley Ashland, Tyler Averill, Erica Jason and her husband Eric Hoak, Rachael Jason, Hailey Jason, Alex Jason, and Lindsey Jason. She adored her three great-grandchildren: Camdyn, Landyn and Rowan.
A memorial service was held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel and interment will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in her honor.
