Rebecca H. McKenney passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2026. She was born on May 9th, 1943 to Lloyd and Frances Hunt of Burnham, ME. She grew up on the family farm with her siblings Joyce, Charlene, Edward, and Crystal. Rebecca graduated from MCI in 1961 and FKSTC in 1965.

Upon graduation, Rebecca taught at Canaan Elementary School. She married John M. McKenney in 1967. Later she became a stay at home mom to Johnny, Jennifer, and Brett on Baker Street and at Unity Pond during the summers. It was on Baker Street where she met Dot Trahan a good neighbor and friend.

When her children were older, Rebecca went to work at the Brown Memorial Library and Clinton Elementary School where she was happily surrounded by books and people. With her love for books, she immediately started volunteering in the school library. It was here where she met and became good friends with the librarian, Jackie Dorko.

Rebecca enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school activities, taking them to the playground, taking them to visit relatives, feeding them after a day of work on the Hill Road, and watching them grow into the adults they are today. Rebecca was also blessed with two great grandsons whom she loved dearly.

Rebecca loved books and enjoyed solving the crossword puzzle and daily jumble in the Morning Sentinel. As her eyesight worsened she read large print books, used her magnifying glass, and relied on people for rides. Rebecca had much grit and determination, and made the best of a bad situation.

During retirement Rebecca traveled to Utah, New York City, Florida, North Conway, and to summer music shows. Rebecca also attended church, went on weekly shopping trips, out to lunch, and visited friends and relatives with Joyce. Four years ago, Rebecca and Charlene moved into WSL where she met new people, played BINGO, listened to music, enjoyed the gazebo, had her hair done by Marcie, and was cared for by Betty. She also enjoyed visits from family and friends.

Rebecca was predeceased by her husband John, son Brett, parents Lloyd and Frances, siblings Joyce, Charlene, and Edward.

She is survived by her children John D. (Terry) and Jennifer; her grandchildren Benjamin (Rachel), Brandon, Ariel (Ed) , Matthew, Sawyer (Jackie); great grandsons Korvyn and Henry; her sister Crystal and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Oakland Waterfront Park on Old Belgrade Ave. Saturday, August 22nd at 9:30am.
