Paul Leo Krizinauskas Obituary

Paul Leo Krizinauskas of Chelsea, Maine, passed away peacefully at Togus Springs Hospice Unit on May 28, 2026, after a long, hard battle with cancer. He was grateful for the care he received along his journey. Paul is remembered as kind-hearted, benevolent, a music lover, and a promoter of peace. He was a faithful blood donor with the American Red Cross until he could no longer give.

Paul was born in Awali, Bahrain, to Alfonse & Anna Krizinauskas where his father was stationed as a Merchant Marine. When he was 10, they moved to New Jersey. He studied journalism, joined the Iota Kappa Phi fraternity, bicycled across the country, attended Woodstock, and was drafted to the Army for the Vietnam War. He received several medals, including the Purple Heart when wounded from a grenade explosion. He was Honorably Discharged.

Paul’s path brought him to Maine where he met his former wife, Betty (Bryant), and her two daughters, Bethanie (Morgan) and Merrianne (Alward); they had a daughter, Molly. Paul was a loving and devoted father. He worked various jobs over the years but the enjoyment he got from numbers, computers and finance kept him working many years, even after his first leukemia diagnosis. After he retired and as a way to pay it forward, he started and maintained a hummingbird feeder program at Gray Birch Rehabilitation Center in Augusta and served in the MaineGeneral Medical Center Volunteer program.

Paul leaves behind his daughter Molly Kaye of Jefferson and her children, Hale and David Winchenbach, sister Frances Leach of New Hampshire and her husband Jerry and their daughters Kate, Bonnie & Allie, sister Karen Gainey of New Jersey and her husband Robert and their daughter Victoria, and many family members and friends, including his good friend Nancy Smith of Chelsea. He was predeceased by his mother, Anna (Gillis) Krizinauskas, and father, Alfonse Krizinauskas.

A private celebration of life will be planned for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation of sorts to the American Red Cross.
