Judith “Judy” Ampungan, 59, of Eastport, Maine, passed away on May 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her signature, determination and lively spirit were on display until the very end.

Judy was born on February 18, 1967, in Eastport, Maine, to Judie Lawless Ayres and the late Francis Ayres. She graduated from Shead High School in 1985 and continued her education at Bay Path College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Following college, Judy spent several years living in Portland, Maine. Like so many who grow up in Eastport, however, she felt the pull of home and returned to the community she loved in the early 1990s. Eastport remained her home for the rest of her life.

Judy worked in a variety of hospitality positions throughout the Eastport area while raising her family. She cherished the friendships, traditions, and sense of belonging that came with living in the beautiful coastal town she had always known as home. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she worshipped and volunteered with summer youth camps. In recent years, she enjoyed living with her mother after the passing of her father, Francis Ayres, in 2009.

Judy deeply loved the rugged beauty of Eastport and the close-knit community that made it such a special place. She cherished the friendships, traditions, and sense of belonging that came with living in the town she called home.

Above all, Judy was devoted to her family. She is survived by her mother, Judie Lawless Ayres of Eastport; her brother, Christopher Ayres and his wife, Donna Paquette Ayres, of Saco; and her beloved niece and nephews, Madisyn, Griffin, and Duncan Ayres.

Judys' greatest legacy: Nicholas Ampungan and his wife, Kalah Mitchell Ampungan, of Sorrento, and their daughter, Sophia; Brandon Ampungan and his wife, Alexandra Sexton Ampungan, of Calais, and their children, Abigail, Odin, and Ocie; and Savannah Ampungan Harriman and her husband, Justin Harriman, of Calais, and their daughter, Adeline.  Having her family close and watching them grow was a source of pride and joy.

A Celebration of Life, open to all family and friends, will be held at Gleason’s Cove in Perry, Maine, at 11:00 a.m. on August 7, 2026. Those who knew and loved Judy are invited to gather and celebrate a life filled with love, faith, family, and community.

Though she will be deeply missed, Judy’s sense of humor, kindness and love for life will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
