Dean Francis Bertrand 

October 15, 1941-April 8, 2026.

Born in Bath, Maine to Francis O. and Martha Cutting Bertrand. 

Graduate of Morse High class of 1960.

Dean’s happy place was Brigham’s Cove and the ocean beyond. He could be seen pulling a few traps, pushing peoples floats into position, or taking a spin to Cundy’s for a bite to eat. Tossing a line overboard and catching a bluefish, stripper or jigging for mackerel was one of his favorite pastimes. He tried his hand at tuna fishing but just couldn’t handle his sea sickness. He was disappointed to have to give it up. He did get to experience the thrill and excitement of landing a couple of good ones. When he wasn’t cruising around on his boat he could be seen cruising around town in his convertible or one of the many other vehicles he had over time. 

When he wasn’t cruising by land or sea, there was always a good chance you could find him by his garage working on a boat or building a new dock. Ready with a wave from his lawn chair whenever neighbors and friends passed by he was always someone who could lend just the right tool, help fix whatever needed fixing, and of course, catch you up on town gossip in the process.

Dean loved to spend time with his grandchildren; Jennifer Merry Harkins (husband Michael) of Bath, Mark R. Merry Jr. of Independence Missouri, Sophie Racine of Litchfield, Evelyn Letourneau (husband Cory) of Albuquerque, NM and Bradford Tibbetts of Boothbay Harbor and his great grandchildren; Hazel, Rowan and Willow Harkins, Atlas Lamar and Oliver Racine, Finnegan, Juliette and Margaret Letourneau.

Dean is predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Harold (Randy) Bertrand and his companion of more than 39 years, Marilla Sparks. He is survived by his older sister and brother in law Richard and Betsy Bisson, sister in law Dianne Bertrand, nieces and nephews; Rick and Laurie Bisson, Holly and Jody Lowe, Joe Bisson and Tamara Lily, Carolyn Brigham, Jennifer and Andy Rice, Shelby Bertrand, Jared Bertrand and many great nieces and nephews. 

There will be a Celebration Of Life in the early summer. Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
