Pamela M. Wegman Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that the Wegman family shares the passing of Pamela Wegman on March 9, 2026 after a long struggle with cancer. She died at home, where she most loved to be, with her family at her side.

Pam was born to George and Ellie Wegman in Longmeadow, Massachusetts on April 23, 1949. She grew up in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts where she and her brother Bill explored the local quarries, swimming in the summer and skating in the winter. She competed in downhill ski racing and later raced cars and dirt bikes and learned to fly, receiving her pilots license in 1993. Music was an important part of Pam’s life and she learned to play the classical music she so enjoyed on her favorite instrument, the piano.

Pam was an artist. She made quilts, painted floor cloths and braided rugs, spending long winters meticulously designing and executing intricate creations which grace the floors and walls of her own home and the homes of all those she loved. Pam could make or sew anything and she was especially talented at creating costumes for the many Weimaraners, including her dog Chundo, who starred in her brother’s work. She was beloved by everyone who was ever part of a Wegman photo or film shoot in Maine. In 1995, Pam and her brother’s work were exhibited together in the show “Mainely Wegmans” at Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine. Pam turned everything she did into a work of art.

Pam was a devoted aunt to her niece and nephew, Lola and Atlas Wegman, who spent all their summers together with their Aunt P in Maine from birth onwards. Pam was always ready for a new project, standing by to cook or build or sew pretty much anything that she and Atlas and Lola could dream up. Her creativity, enthusiasm and joy is inherited by them both.

Pam loved Maine and especially her home on Loon Lake. She made beautiful gardens in an inhospitable climate and devoted herself to making Loon Lake a special place for the whole Wegman Family, everything seemingly effortless and always just as it had always been.

In 2004 she met Ernest Gurney and together they made a wonderful life full of books and movies and art in the middle of the woods.

As her niece, Lola, expressed in her 4 th grade project about her Aunt P, Pam loved nothing more than to help others. Compassionate and humble, Pam lifted the sprits of all around her. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a conversation over the phone or a package of cookies, she found ways to make everyone around her feel the joy in life that she did.

Pam was predeceased by her son Zachary Milano and her former husband Stan Bartash. She has left the company but not the hearts of her family: Bill, Christine, Atlas and Lola Wegman and Ernest Gurney. The Wegman family would like to thank Andwell Health Partners for their kindness and care during Pam’s final days.
