Frederick A. Castle Jr. Obituary
It is with great sorrow that the family of Frederick Arthur Castle, Jr. announces his passing on February 18, 2026 in Ellsworth, Maine while surrounded by his family. Arthur, or “Fred” was born on July 31, 1936 to Laura and Frederick A. Castle Sr. in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Arthur was raised in Lawrence and attended schools there until he enlisted into the United States Army on June 10, 1959 and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1961. While in the service he performed many duties including but not limited to chauffeuring both General McArthur and President Eisenhower. As a result he was rewarded for his heroic efforts for his country.
After completion of his Army service, Arthur was employed in the Lawrence shoe factories for several years. During that time Arthur became interested in electrical work and attended night school at the Greater Lawrence Vocational School and completed his electrical course. He went on to pursue his Master Electrician’s License while working for Hart Brothers Electric and eventually went into a partnership and opened his own successful business - Castle & Parent Electric. His passion for learning and knowledge of electrical work was passed on to many of the Greater Lawrence Vocational students as he would hire and mentor them. Some went on to become lifelong friends and spoke with him the day he passed, (Fred Skaff).
After many years in the electrical business Arthur retired and married Diane Richmond. Arthur and Diane began their journey traveling the United States in their home visiting numerous national parks, light houses and other historic places for more than twenty years. They became snowbirds staying in Florida in the winter and Maine in the summer where they eventually settled. Along with traveling, Arthur enjoyed dancing multiple times a week so he joined the Elks, Moose and any other clubs that would fit his needs. He built numerous homes, garages, and whatever else he decided he was interested in. He received his motorcycle license at age 50, knew the computer better than his children and wired his entire home for solar. Arthur had a quest for knowledge and was always willing to share that with family and others that he cared about and passed on his words of wisdom to those that would listen. He also loved and enjoyed watching different television series and was a fervent Boston Pro sports fan and witnessed the wins of the Patriot’s Dynasty, Red Sox World Series, Stanley Cups, and Olympics!
Arthur is survived by his wife Diane, his children Noella (Denise) Austin and Glenn Frauton, Frederick A. Castle III and his wife Jenny. His stepchildren, Steven Carlisle, Susan and husband Mike Sudak. He is further survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, his nieces Laurel Reis, Donna and husband Allen Dobbs and nephew Rick Schill. Arthur was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Laura Castle, his first wife Fernande Gingue, his son Mark Denise and his sister Shirley Schill.
The family will hold a celebration of life at a future date.
