Marion Ellen Doyle Obituary
Marion Ellan Doyle (Snookie Grover), most beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the age of 72.
Marion was born in a small hospital in North Conway, New Hampshire on December 12, 1953. She grew up on Portland’s West End and raised her family there with three generations of family on Tyng Street. She attended Portland Public Schools and the University of Southern Maine, where she received a BSW and MSW in Social Work.
Marion had a family day care in her home for two decades. She also worked at the childcare center in the YWCA’s teen parent program. While attending graduate school, she worked as an Eldercare Case Worker, advocating for and seeing to the needs of vulnerable elderly people in the greater Portland area. She spent the last twenty years of her career as a clinician with St. Mary’s Hospital working as the Clinical Social Worker in the Lewiston/Auburn area middle schools helping children. She spent a lifetime caring about and taking care of people with love and compassion.
Marion had a strong will, a dry sense of humor, and a sharp wit. She was a brave, intelligent, and kind woman. She had a big heart and a mighty sense of social justice.
Marion is survived by her husband of 51 years Charles Doyle Jr. of Gray, her daughter Racheal Doyle of Portland, her granddaughter Chloe Wheeler of Lewiston, her brother William Grover of Sweden, and so many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her daughter Karen Doyle, her parents Clarence Sr. and Evaline Grover, her sister Madelyn Adams, and her brothers Clarence Jr, Arthur, and Ransom Grover.
She is deeply mourned and profoundly missed in the lives of those who loved her. Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
