Georgeanna ‘George’ Carey, 71, passed away peacefully in her home on January 6, 2026, with her longtime partner, David Marston by her side. She spent her life rooted in love, resilience, and devotion to her family.
She was born Georgeanna Yotides on January 25, 1954, to George and Betty Yotides, in Waterville, Maine. She was raised in the central Maine area with her sister Katherine, and brother James and graduated from Winslow High School in 1972.
For many years George cared for other children in her home while raising her own, spending her time cooking great food and organizing activities to entertain the kids. Later in life she enjoyed working at the Hathaway Shirt Company in Waterville, working as a piecework seamstress and serving time as a chief steward in the union.
George found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Her and David’s favorite pastimes were fishing, going to yard sales, playing bingo, and caring for the five Bernese Mountain dogs they adopted through the years. She cherished the time she could spend with her three grandchildren, who she adored. She looked forward to cooking Greek feasts on holidays, as well as visits from her sister Kathy, every Summer.
She faced Multiple Sclerosis with remarkable strength. Through every stage, she sought knowledge, asked questions, and looked for ways to improve her health. Even as her illness slowly took things from her, she remained positive and persistent, meeting each challenge with courage and grace.
Georgeanna is predeceased by her parents, her mother-in-law, Yvette Carey, father of her children, Kenneth Carey, and dear friend Norma Swift. She will be greatly missed by her loving partner, David Marston, her daughter, Kendra Carey (grandson Ethan), her son, Benjamin Carey (grandchildren Cedric and Claire) and their mother, Amanda Carey.
Also left behind are her sister and best friend, Katherine Sullivan and brother-in-law Richard Sullivan, nieces Sophia Farmer and family, Tara Hannon and family; brother James Yotides and sister-in-law Audrey, nephew Alex Yotides, and half-sister Joyce Poulicakos and family, along with various cousins and friends.
She will be remembered for her warmth, her strength in the face of adversity, and the way she made people feel safe and loved.
