Michael Ralph Fernald, 78, passed away peacefully at Pinnacle North Berwick on December 1, 2025, joining his late wife Elizabeth on the third anniversary of her passing.

Michael, or “Mike,” as many of his friends and acquaintances knew him, was born December 15, 1946, in Westbrook, Maine. Growing up, he demonstrated his dry sense of humor in multiple ways and performed in stage productions at Westbrook High School. After graduating from high school in 1965, Mike left Maine to attend Leland Powers School of Radio and Television Broadcasting in Boston, MA, where he met Elizabeth. They were married in 1968 and had their only child, Kimberly, in 1970.

Mike amused and entertained those who knew him, including friends he made through working at two South Portland hotels. He had many interests and creative endeavors.

In the late 2010s, Mike was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and spent the next several years caring for himself and Elizabeth. In 2024, Mike’s grandchild, Phoenix Lemay, along with Phoenix’s husband, Eric and their sons, moved in with Mike to care for him; he lived with them through a move to Hiram, Maine, in 2025, up until his physical health necessitated the move to Pinnacle in November of that year.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ramsey-Winkler, and her husband Steven Winkler Jr., of Lawrence, MA; grandchild Phoenix Lemay and grandson-in-law Eric Lemay of Hiram, ME, and their sons Ryan (of Rochester, NH), James, and Jensen; grandchild Dr. Mic Ramsey of Lawrence, MA, and Mic’s partner Isaac Judson of Prince Edward Island, Canada; and cousins and friends who will remember Mike’s sweet spirit and wicked sense of humor.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pinnacle North Berwick and Wentworth Hospice for their kind and compassionate attention to Mike’s needs and their gentle support of family and friends during this time.
