Stephen Cohen Obituary

Stephen Charles Cohen, of Sebago Maine, passed away during the early morning hours of Sunday October 12th, 2025.

As a young man growing up in Malden, Massachusetts, Steve loved to ride his bike and spend time with neighbors, cousins, and his younger sister Sherel. Entering into his teenage years he discovered lifelong hobbies including stamp and coin collecting. This sparked Steve’s passion for collecting a wide range of esoteric items including vintage camera equipment. He frequented coin and camera shows throughout his adult life, making many friends and acquaintances while discussing the ins and outs of SLRs and commemorative coins.

In the mid 1970s, Steve and Gail embarked on their life together, spending the following decades building their business, first in the telemarketing realm and eventually in the sphere of public speaking. She led the room while he stood “quietly” in the back, mapping out the next day's travel arrangements and selling Gail’s books and CDs.

Steve enjoyed the finer things in life; a premium cigar, a top-shelf whiskey, and caviar. He loved a good joke and a bad pun. He was an emotional man, not afraid to tear up or laugh out loud heartily. Whether in his car or at home, he was an avid listener of Maine Public Radio, classical music, and Red Sox games.

When not traveling for work, he enjoyed his time at home cooking and eating. Steve was a gourmand. There was no food that he would not try at least once. Although he was a culinary adventurer, he did have a particular affinity for a bagel with a thick schmear. Steve took great pleasure in cooking for and feeding his family at holidays and gatherings.

Steve spent his retirement years living a tranquil life with his wife, Gail, in their beloved modified A-frame on a wooded lot on Sebago Lake. He loved the trees and birds, sunrises and sunsets, flowers, and the beauty of the lake itself. Steve had his own unique way of living life and he greatly appreciated his family's support in doing so.

Rest in peace Steve/Dad/Da/Zayde/ Uncle Silly/Sweetheart.

Steve leaves behind his dear wife, Gail Cohen, and four children: Joan Parkin (Jafar Yamani), Patrice Marquis, Andrea Cohen (Jim Christo), and Jonathan Cohen. He also leaves his grandson, Treen Marquis, brother-in-law Paul Carmody (Janet), sister-in-law, Maria Marquis, and many, many beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Maine Public Radio.
