SOUTH THOMASTON - Gary Tucker, 72, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones, Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Born on April 22, 1953, in Portland, Maine, he was the son of Fred Tucker and Larry and Georgette Boynton.
Gary was known as a kind, simple, family man. He graduated from Calais High School in 1972. In his early years, he found joy in riding his motorcycle and being with friends and family. But when he became a dad, his whole world shifted—family became everything. He proudly took on the role of a stay-at-home dad, wearing his “Mr. Mom” apron, caring for the yard, helping with homework, and planning camping adventures. Gary also spent 35+ years dedicated to Ellsworth Builders Supply. In his later years, he found comfort in the little things—wearing his tie-dye shirts, sipping coffee, and watching The Price is Right. He may have been quiet, but his love ran deep and steady. His presence brought comfort, and his absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
On September 9, 1989, Gary married the love of his life, Mary Ellen. Together, they had three children, Michael, Mitchell (wife Becca), and Mackenzie. The Tucker family grew when Michael and Lindsey Taylor welcomed his first grandchild, Landon, followed by Mitchell and Becca’s two little girls, Ellia and Delilah. With the untimely passing of Mary Ellen, Gary carried on the unwavering love and support for his children and family. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family.
Gary is also survived by his brothers, Alan Tucker and Jim (Heidi) Tucker; a sister, Lisa (Matt) Giffin; mother-in-law, Margaret Edgecomb; sister-in-law, Annie (James) Perry; brothers-in-law Ross (Cammy) Edgecomb, Roland (Debbie) Edgecomb. He will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Fred Tucker; mother, Georgette Hebert Boynton; second father, Larry Boynton; father-in-law, Malcolm Edgecomb; brother-in-law, Ralph Edgecomb and nephew, Steven Edgecomb.
May you always be “better than a donut”.
