Ricky Block, age 59, passed away after a brief illness at Maine Health PenBay Hospital in Rockport, ME on September 11, 2025.

Ricky was born July 12, 1966, in Los Angeles, California to Sherry Marvel and Terry Block both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his son Nathan and his brothers Howard, Dennis and Brady as well as many friends and chosen family in Maine and beyond.

Ricky’s adventures from a young age took him to many places in the Southwest and Midwest until he landed in Maine in his early twenties. He hated the cold but ended up staying anyway and started a family. There may be some around that take a limited view of the twists and turns in Ricky’s life over the years. It was not always easy and sometimes affected by bad decisions but his is a life to be celebrated for so many things that those people may not know.  He made people smile pretty much everywhere he went, be it the clerks and staff in stores all around the area, the local pantry folks or the people he worked with and for. And if you were a friend or even a stranger in need, especially a damsel in distress, he always picked up the call. If he saw someone he thought was in trouble, anywhere, he would stop and ask if he could help.

 Ricky was accomplished at many things, especially fixing something that was broken because he hated throwing anything out.  An afternoon car ride would likely be interrupted more than once to scour that pile of roadside stuff with the “FREE” sign. He didn’t always succeed in fixing what he found but he loved the challenge and the learning part of it.  Ricky was a jack-of-all trades when it came to carpentry and cars. He loved to cook and was most proud of his tuna salad, meatloaf and fish and chips.  If he cooked for you, you were lucky and happy. He was “Uncle Ricky” to his friends’ kids and everyone’s dogs. Ricky was a very skilled barber and very proud of that. He just loved being able to cut hair and have a client walk away happy. He often carried his barber tools in his car “just in case” he ran into someone that needed an impromptu cut.

 So, if you are someone who knew and loved Ricky, and there are many of you, celebrate his life in a way that you know he would appreciate. Maybe grab a Twisted Tea and raise a toast. Listen to some good music. Hug your loved ones. And perhaps, be like Ricky and perform an unsolicited act of kindness in his name for someone less fortunate.
