Falmouth - Barbara Louise ( Kayser) Bernier, aged 86, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, after gracefully managing dementia for many years. Born in Waterbury, CT, Barbara was the only child of Karl and Ella (Pawley) Kayser. Barb had fond memories of her childhood with family, friends and neighbors. It was the foundation for her love of life, and living with purpose and humor. 

Barb went on to attend Central Connecticut State College where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Master's Degree in Reading and Language Arts. After graduating, Barb married her high school sweetheart, Leandre Andre Bernier, and they enjoyed 41 years of their best lives together.  Barb often commented on how fortunate she was to have a job she looked forward to every day as a Reading Specialist in Whitesboro, NY for 25 years. In her retirement chapter, she spent time between Manning, SC and New Harbor, ME where she made many new friendships. 

Barb was the ultimate hostess welcoming all that visited her homes. She was an avid traveler, cook, volunteer and walker. However, of all her roles, Barb's favorite and most treasured was being “Nana”. She loved attending her grandchildren's various events and creating cherished memories with each of them at “Nana Camp” in New Harbor. 

Barb is predeceased by her parents, husband Andre, and cousin Gus Schoeck. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Rick (Kelly), Mark (Merri), and Bruce (Rose) Bernier;  six grandchildren: Alex, Jack, London, Hannah, Graham, and Daniel Bernier; sister-in-law Barbara R. Bernier, niece Kimberly (Douglas) Zeytoojian, nephew Parker Robinson and cousin-in-law Mary Lou Schoeck.

The family is very grateful for the care Barbara received from the staff at Bay Square Assisted Living in Yarmouth, Legacy Memory Care at Ocean View in Falmouth, and Genitiva Hospice in Scarborough, all located in Maine. There will be a private service at a later date.  Memories and condolences may be shared with her family on her tribute wall.
