It is with sadness that we share the passing of Leonard Weiner, age 84, who died peacefully on June 28, 2025, in Damariscotta, Maine.
Leonard was born on February 18, 1941, to parents Mollie Seidenberg and Irving Stanley Weiner. He grew up in the Mosholu Parkway neighborhood of the Bronx, NY, where he graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School. He attended Farleigh Dickinson College in NJ, and then worked for the New York City Department of Social Services while earning his Master's in Social Work from Columbia University.
Leonard practiced social work for three decades at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, serving residents of Brownsville, East New York, Canarsie and Flatbush. He retired to Washington, Maine in the early 2000s, where he could monitor the New York Stock Exchange remotely, while enjoying freshwater fishing, harness races, and collecting nineteenth-century American lithographs.
He was a devoted husband and father, a protector of local wildlife, and a one-of-a-kind friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Leonard is survived by wife Marilyn Kayser Weiner, daughters Erica and Emily Weiner, grandchildren Noah Hix, Shepard Kardasis and Vivian Kardasis, sister Eileen Taub, nieces Stephanie Blackoff and Paige Martin, and many more family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for water testing and ecology preservation via the Washington Lakes Watershed Association, where Lenny served as treasurer.
