William (Terry) Henry Allen III, 82, of Bangor, ME, died suddenly but peacefully at home on June 17, 2025. Terry was born in Bath, ME, the son of William and Constance (Beers) Allen. A life-long learner, Terry attended Winterport High School and Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME, and then graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a B.A. in Political Science. 

Terry married Carol Blood with whom he had a daughter, Susan Blood- Rodriguez. Later he married Hannah Paine with whom he lived happily for 34 years until his last breath. He leaves his daughter, Susan,  three stepchildren, Laura, Prescott, and Phoebe, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. 

Terry worked for the city of Bangor as a Housing Inspector for Code Enforcement and Fire Prevention. He also served on the Cortland Circle Homeowners’ Association for many years in the capacity of secretary and president.

Terry especially loved music, listening all day to a mix of classical and bluegrass. He was a voracious reader whose library was refilled by friends and family dropping off bags of books, and he could read 2 or 3 books in a week. His engineer brain loved tinkering with broken lamps and repurposing lost items he’d find in the local dumpster. A dog-lover initially, Terry learned to love cats as well and was a best friend to many rescued kittens and cats from the Bangor Humane Society. Terry was a kind soul, a good person with a great sense of humor. Wry, witty, well-read, he wrote wonderful cards and email messages to friends and family. People enjoyed the way he put them at the center of his attention and showed genuine interest in them. His companionship and stories will be missed, especially by his beloved Hannah.

Interment will be private.
