Elmer Johnson Jr., a retired lobsterman from Tenants Harbor, passed away on June 12, 2025 at the Sussman House in Rockport, Maine. Known for his stubborn and witty nature, Elmer was a familiar and well-known figure in the community. He was known for his hard work which laid the foundation for his lifelong career in lobster fishing, a profession that defined much of his life and character.
He shared a deep and abiding love with his late wife Donna Watts Johnson, with whom he enjoyed traveling to the Dominican Republic each winter. Their travels were not just about escaping the cold but also about meeting fellow travelers, and enjoying the sunshine.
Elmer leaves behind a loving family, including his brother Philip Johnson, sister Susan Overlock, stepchildren Steve Watts and Keith Stone, Paul Watts and wife Beverly Harris, Becky and husband Gus Ruggieri, Debbie and husband Greg Siegel. He was also a proud grandfather to granddaughters Valerie Siegel, Alyssa Siegel, Jayme Nicholas, and great granddaughter Addy Ruggieri.
Elmer was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Donna, his parents Elmer Johnson Sr. and Martha, sisters Nancy, Phyllis, Francis and older brother Howard.
Elmer's life was marked by his rugged individualism and deep connections he forged with those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who know him and the stories they share about his life and adventures.
The family is planning a private graveside service.
